SPRING TRAINING IS OVER, SO IT’S TIME TO PLAY FOR
REAL.
THE 20-18 M-L-B REGULAR SEASON IS UNDERWAY WITH
OPENING DAY HAPPENING TODAY.
(Anchor)
IT WAS A SOMEWHAT QUIET SPRING TRAINING, BUT THERE
WERE A FEW HEADLINES.
MOST NOTABLE IS ANGELS TWO-WAY PLAYER SHOW-HEY
OHTANI, WHO HAD A ROUGH CAMP.
THE RIGHT-HANDER ALLOWED EIGHT RUNS IN TWO AND TWO
THIRDS INNINGS PITCHED, AND STRUGGLED AT THE PLATE, TOO.
HE WENT THREE FOR 28 WITH NINE STRIKEOUTS, CLEARLY
STRUGGLING TO ADJUST TO MAJOR LEAGUE PITCHING.
NEVERTHELESS, HE MADE THE ANGELS OPENING DAY ROSTER
AND IS SLATED TO BE THEIR NUMBER THREE STARTER.
THE INJURY BUG BIT A FEW TEAMS THIS SPRING,
INCLUDING THE GIANTS, DODGERS AND YANKEES.
MADISON BUMGARNER IS OUT SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS AFTER A
COMEBACKER FRACTURED HIS LEFT HAND, AND RIGHTY JEFF SAMAR-JA IS OUT WITH A
PECTORAL STRAIN.
YANKEES FIRST BASEMAN GREG BIRD IS ALSO OUT SIX TO
EIGHT WEEKS AFTER SURGERY TO REMOVE A BONE SPUR IN HIS ANKLE.
JUSTIN TURNER IS OUT INDEFINITELY AFTER GETTING HIT
BY A PITCH AND FRACTURING HIS WRIST.
ALL OF US AT BEAR ZONE WISH THESE PLAYERS SPEEDY
RECOVERIES.
STAY TUNED FOR ALL THE HIGHLIGHTS AROUND OPENING
DAY.
