UNC hockey wins big against Long
Beach State, 9-1

The
University of Northern Colorado hockey team dominated in their win Friday,
beating Long Beach State 9-1 at the Greeley Ice Haus.
Cameron
Taggart recorded a hat trick, scoring twice in the second period and once in
the third.
Jake Siebold
began the scoring in the first period, and it was all Bears from then on.
Northern Colorado led 3-0 by the end
of the first, thanks to a goal from Mitchell Bailey, and Cade Boreing added a
power play goal right before the end of the first period.
UNC added four more goals in the
second, highlighted by two of Taggart’s three goals. The first came early in
the period and Brantt Heble made it 5-0 Bears shortly after.
Taggart stuffed it in on the back
door to give Northern Colorado a 6-0 lead, and Siebold and Brian Brink made it
a 7-0 Bears lead at the end of the second.
Sean Cuscaden replaced Ashton
Opperman at goalie to begin the third period, and he kept the shutout going
until the 49ers scored 8:33 into the period.
Jake Siebold buried UNC’s 8th
goal, and Taggart capped off the scoring with his third goal 12:56 into the
third period.
Northern Colorado almost had as many
goals as Long Beach State took shots, with UNC scoring nine times and LBSU only
taking 15 shots. The Bears took a mind-boggling 61 shots on the night.
With the win, UNC improves to
22-6-1-1 on the season.
