THE BEARS’ HOMESTAND ENDED ON A GOOD
NOTE.
U-N-C CONCLUDED THEIR FIVE-GAME
HOMESTAND TUESDAY WITH A SEVEN-NOTHING WIN OVER METRO STATE.
(vo)
THE BEARS JUMPED OUT TO A TWO-NOTHING
LEAD IN THE FIRST, AS JACK PAULEY DROVE IN THE FIRST RUN WITH AN R-B-I
SINGLE.
DEAN LAWSON SCORED ON A WILD PITCH TO PLATE
THE SECOND RUN.
THAT SCORE HELD UNTIL THE SIXTH INNING
WHEN THE BEARS TACKED ON SOME INSURANCE.
BRETT MINNICK DROVE IN TWO WITH A SINGLE
TO RIGHT, AND LAWSON DREW A BASES-LOADED WALK TO PUSH THE LEAD TO FIVE.
ONE BRIGHT SPOT DURING THE HOMESTAND WAS
COLE MALTESE, AND HE CONTINUED TO SWING THE BAT WELL.
HIS SOLO HOME RUN IN THE SEVENTH INNING
PUSHED THE LEAD TO SIX-NOTHING, AND ANOTHER BASES-LOADED WALK BROUGHT HOME
THE SEVENTH RUN FOR THE BEARS.

THE SHUTOUT WAS U-N-C’S FIRST SINCE MAY
OF LAST SEASON.
WITH THE WIN, THE BEARS IMPROVE TO 22
AND 19 ON THE SEASON.
U-N-C HEADS OUT OF STATE ONE LAST TIME
THIS WEEKEND WITH A SERIES AT CHICAGO STATE.
