WHEN YOU SCORE 17 RUNS IN ONE GAME, YOU THINK YOU’RE
GOING TO HAVE A PRETTY GOOD SERIES.
THE ONLY PROBLEM IS YOU HAVE TO KEEP SCORING RUNS TO
WIN GAMES.
THE BEARS BASEBALL TEAM SCORED 17 RUNS ON FRIDAY,
BUT ONLY MANAGED TO SCORE 14 THE REST OF THE SERIES, EVENTUALLY EARNING A
SPLIT AGAINST NORTH DAKOTA STATE.

U-N-C SCORED 12 RUNS IN THE FIRST THREE INNINGS OF
FRIDAY’S GAME, INCLUDING FIVE IN THE FIRST AND SEVEN IN THE THIRD.
THEY LED 12 TO ONE AFTER THREE INNINGS, BUT DIDN’T
STOP THERE.
MATT ZOBA PINCH HIT IN THE FIFTH AND HIT HIS FIRST
CAREER HOME RUN, GIVING THE BEARS A 16 TO TWO LEAD.
U-N-C WENT ON TO WIN 17 TO FOUR AND LOOKED TO CARRY
THAT MOMENTUM INTO SATURDAY’S DOUBLE-HEADER.
BUT THE BEARS MUST HAVE BLOWN THEIR WAD IN THE FIRST
GAME, AS THEY ONLY MANAGED TO SCORE FIVE RUNS IN THE TWIN BILL.
THEY JUMPED OUT TO AN EARLY TWO TO NOTHING LEAD, BUT
N-D-S-U HAD OTHER IDEAS THIS TIME AROUND.
THE BISON USED THEIR OWN BIG INNING, A SIX-RUN
SECOND, TO WIN THE FIRST GAME.
U-N-C GOT SOLO SHOTS BY TYLER YAMA-GOO-CHEE AND EVAN
JOHNSON, BUT FELL SHORT, SIX TO THREE.
GAME TWO WAS SCORELESS THROUGH THE FIRST FOUR
INNINGS, BUT THE BISON GOT TWO IN THE FIFTH AND ONE IN THE SIXTH TO LEAD
THREE TO NOTHING.
THE BEARS PLAYED SMALL BALL IN THE BOTTOM HALF,
GETTING RUNS ON A SAC FLY BY JOHNSON AND ON AN R-B-I GROUNDOUT BY JACK
PAULEY.
BUT IT WASN’T ENOUGH, AS U-N-C LOST FOUR TO TWO.
THE BEARS’ BATS WOKE UP IN THE SERIES FINALE,
HOWEVER, AS THEY WON NINE TO SEVEN.
U-N-C PUT UP FIVE RUNS IN AN INNING FOR THE SECOND
TIME IN THE SERIES, LEADING SIX TO NOTHING AFTER THREE INNINGS.
BRETT MINNICK EXTENDED THE BEARS’ LEAD IN THE FOURTH
WITH A TWO-RUN HOMER, AND MATT BURKART ADDED A SOLO SHOT IN THE SEVENTH.
CONNOR LEEDHOLM SHUT THE DOOR FOR U-N-C, GIVING THEM
A SERIES SPLIT.

THE BEARS IMPROVE THEIR RECORD TO SIX AND FIVE ON
THE SEASON.
THEY WRAP UP THEIR 11-GAME HOMESTAND WITH A
FOUR-GAME SERIES AGAINST SOUTH DAKOTA STATE THIS WEEKEND.
